You want to have a children's birthday party but don't know where to start?

Don't worry!

In this blog post, I will guide you through everything when it comes to children's birthday parties. We dive into everything from the first considerations to the last details that will make the day extraordinary.
Regardless of whether you are starting from scratch or already have some ideas, this post is designed to inspire and help you create the framework for the perfect children's birthday. There are a lot of things to decide, so let's get started!

Find out the practical information

Date:
It would be obvious to celebrate the birthday on the weekend closest to the child's birthday. Otherwise, you can keep it in everyday life after kindergarten or school. I would probably hold it at the weekend so the kids can come during the day and play.
Remember to send an invitation to the parents in good time, so that they can plan based on the birthday.

Who should be invited??
Often it will be obvious to just invite either the whole room/class, but if there are too many, you can either invite only the girls or only the boys. It might be a good idea to do it that way so that no one feels left out.

Plan food and drink

For a children's birthday, there are many options for what you can serve, and I have made a list of ideas for food

  • Mini pizzas with different toppings
  • Chicken wings with dip sauce
  • Mini tacos with meat and cheese
  • Vegetable sticks with dip
  • Mini-burgers with cheese and vegetables
  • Pasta salad with small pieces of pasta and vegetables
  • Fruit salad with different types of fruit
  • Mini-sandwiches with different fillings such as ham and cheese or cucumber and tomato
  • Popcorn in different flavors such as salted, caramelized or chocolate covered
  • Mini pancakes with different toppings such as syrup, fruit or chocolate sauce
  • Buns with butter and toppings

I also made a list of drinks:

  • Fruit smoothies
  • Freshly squeezed lemon-lime water
  • Mixed juices
  • ice tea
  • Milkshakes

Finally, there must of course also be a birthday cake for the birthday person. Here I have also made some ideas:

  • Layer cake with whipped cream and fresh berries
  • Cupcake tower with different decorations and flavors
  • Chocolate cake with frosting and candy decorations
  • A cake shaped like an animal, a car or a fairytale castle
  • Brownie cake with chocolate pieces and nuts

Provide decorations and decorations

To create the perfect atmosphere for your child's birthday, it is important to think creatively when it comes to decorations and details.

I have collected some ideas that will give your child's birthday a festive atmosphere:

  • Balloons in the birthday boy's favorite colors.
  • Glowsticks - always funny for kids in all ages
  • Party lights of course :-)
  • Tablecloth and napkins in the theme of the birthday, e.g. with cartoon characters or colors that match the theme.
  • Plates, cups and cutlery that match the theme of the birthday.
  • Hanging decorations such as paper garlands or pom-poms in the colors of the theme.
  • Photo background or photo booth with fun props.
  • Cake table with a beautifully decorated birthday cake in the middle and other goodies around it.
  • Personal details such as name tags or place cards for the guests.

Games and competitions for children

For a child's birthday, you can arrange various games and competitions for the children.

Here are my ideas:

  • Treasure hunt: Arrange a treasure hunt around the garden or home, where the children must follow clues to find the treasure.
  • Sack race: Let the children compete in a sack race, where they have to jump in sacks from start to finish.
  • Stop Dance: Play stop dance music and let the kids dance around. When the music stops, everyone must stop moving. Those who continue to move are out of the game until only one winner remains.
  • Limbo: Make a limbo pole by holding a long pole horizontally and let the kids dance under it without touching it or falling. Lower the bar gradually as play progresses.
  • Painting and drawing: Set up a creative station where the children can paint and draw on canvas or paper.
  • Egg and spoon race: Participants must balance an egg on a spoon and run from start to finish without dropping the egg.
  • Balloon Tying Contest: Who can blow up and tie a balloon the fastest?
  • Treasure hunt with blind fold: This can be a variant of the traditional treasure hunt, where the children have to follow clues blindfolded.
  • Bubble competition: Who can blow the biggest bubble? Equip the kids with bubble blowers and see who can make the biggest and most impressive bubble.
  • Face and body decorating: Let the kids try face painting or temporary tattoos as a fun activity.

Themes for a children's birthday

It is also a cozy and fun idea to have a theme for the birthday. I have made some ideas for themes here:

Superhero Theme:
Let the kids dress up as their favorite superheroes and take part in various rescue missions and superhero challenges. Organize a Super Heroes training camp with obstacle courses and strength training.

Princess theme:
Take the children on an adventurous journey through Princessland, where they can dress up as princesses and princes. Host a royal tea party, creative princess crown and jewelry workshops.

Lego theme:

Let the children build their own Lego masterpieces and create their own Lego universe. Organize a Lego building competition, scavenger hunt for Lego treasures and a Lego birthday cake decorated with Lego bricks.

Pirate theme:

Give the children a pirate experience they will never forget! Organize a scavenger hunt for the missing treasure, which is candy bags.

Christmas theme (December edition):
Take the children on a magical journey through Christmasland, where they can enjoy Christmas decorations, Christmas music and fun Christmas activities. Organize a Christmas carving workshop, Christmas candy making and a festive Christmas party with a Christmas tree and Santa Claus.

Room theme:

Explore the infinite universe with the kids in an exciting space theme! Make astronaut helmets and spaceship structures, host a spaceship simulator and planet exploration, and finish with a starry birthday cake.

Safari theme:

Take the children on an exciting safari through the wilderness, where they can meet wild animals and experience adventures in nature.

Witch and wizard theme:

Let the children participate in magical spells and exciting witch and wizard games. Organize a "Find the Wand" treasure hunt, wand
